BlueScope Australia and New Zealand supplies a large percentage of all flat steel products sold in these markets, employing nearly 9,000 employees at more than 50 facilities in Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Vanuatu and New Caledonia, and over 50 distribution centres in Australia.
We specialise in flat steel products, including slab, hot rolled coil, cold rolled coil, plate and value-added metallic coated and painted steel solutions. Our key focus is on higher value, branded products for the building and construction industry.
Our steelworks at Port Kembla - in New South Wales' Illawarra region - is the largest steel production facility in Australia. With an annual production capacity of approximately 2.6 million tonnes of crude steel it manufactures slab, hot rolled coil and plate products. The steelworks, metal coating and painting lines and associated operations constitute BlueScope in the Illawarra.
New Zealand Steel, the only integrated flat products steelworks in New Zealand, uses locally-sourced iron sand and coal to produce about 600 000 tonnes of steel slabs a year.
BlueScope's branded products are market leaders in Australia and New Zealand, and include COLORBOND® steel (known as COLORSTEEL® in New Zealand), ZINCALUME® metallic coated steel, GALVABOND® and GALVASPAN® steel, and the LYSAGHT® brand of quality steel building products.
The Lysaght business rollforms and supplies a range of products, including roof and wall cladding, steel house framing, rainwater products, fencing, structural products such as purlins and flooring systems, meshes and walkways, and home improvement products. LYSAGHT® products are sold through distributors and suppliers.
In FY2014, BlueScope acquired the Fielders building products business, pipe and tube manufacturer and distributor Orrcon Steel, and the sheet and coil processing and distribution assets of OneSteel. In FY2015 BlueScope acquired the downstream long-products rolling and marketing operations of Fletcher Building’s Pacific Steel Group, based in Auckland, New Zealand.
